Abstract:One of the recent frontier hotspots in biomedical field is organ-on-chips with bionic microfluidic. The chips comprise of micro-tissues that mimic in vivo organs and are able to realize high-throughput detection, which have potential wide applications in the drug discovery and toxicity testing. The liver, a metabolic center of human body, is sensitive for chemicals poison and essential to evaluate the hepatotoxicity in toxicity testing. In recent years the advance in this field come out a great deal of results in liver-on-chips with bionic microfluidic. In this review, we provided an overview of the design concepts, micro-channel perfusion methods and cell culture systems. We also discussed the application prospects and the future trends of liver-on-chips.
